Class 14: Meaning
The central thesis of Interpretive Objects is that words and lives have meaning in the very same sense of ‘meaning’, because all and only interpretive objects are inherently meaningful. This week we’ll examine the closing chapter that tries to complete this argument, and think about parallels between different kinds of meaning.
The main assigned reading for today’s class is chapter 9 of Interpretive Objects.
As always, I have suggested background readings and some also recommended readings for thinking more about related things. But for this week I haven’t decided yet what those should be.
