Class 9: Attributability, Autonomy, Authenticity

Class 9: Attributability, Autonomy, Authenticity

How are persons extended in quality space?  This week we complete the argument that the signal/noise distinction is just the inherent/incidental distinction applied to persons by exploring how persons are extended in quality space. This situates our discussion of signal and noise in a metaphysical framework that explains why using signal as the “in” to participant responses is the right way to treat someone as a person.

The main assigned reading for today’s class is chapter 5 of Interpretive Objects.

As always, I have suggested background readings and some also recommended readings for thinking more about related things. But for this week I’ve found it too hard to choose any specific readings. If you are itching to do more reading on this week, then I encourage you to do some exploratory reading about relational autonomy.
