Class 5.2 Rosati - Revisiting Makropulos

Today we wrap up discussion of the Makropulos case with a response from the philosopher Connie Rosati.

Connie Rosati

Connie Rosati is a distinguished moral philosopher who now teaches at the University of Texas, after spending much of her career at the University of Arizona. She is co-editor of Ethics, the most prestigious journal for moral philosophy.

Long Reading

Rosati’s response to Williams is one of the longer things that we will read this semester. Please be patient and give yourself enough time to work through it!

Reading

As you read Rosati’s article, “The Makropulos Case Revisited”, ask yourself, “what does Rosati think that Williams misrepresented about the original play?”, “Why does she think that is important, and what insight does it give us?”, “what is the core of her response to Williams?”, and “do I agree with this response?”
